Yatai Stalls Fukuoka
Discover the Vibrant Food Capital of Japan: Unique Night Experience of Fukuoka “Yatai”
As the night of dawn approaches, the bustling voices of locals and visitors light up the streets of Fukuoka, Kyushu's most prominent downtown area.
“Yatai” stalls flourished during the Edo period (1603-1868), more than 300 years ago. Known as the symbol of Japanese street food culture, they are much loved by locals and visitors. Folks can enjoy drinking sake along with a variety of tasty Japanese foods such as ramen, oden, and yakitori.
It is said that over 100 "Yatai" stalls still operate in Fukuoka, making the city one of the few places in Japan where the charm of traditional street food culture remains alive and well, offering a glimpse into the everyday life of the past.
