PELLESTRINA
The Lido di Pellestrina is a 7 miles long and thin island which forms part of the barrier dividing the lagoon from the sea.
The town faces the lagoon but walking a big white sea wall you can appreciate the view of the sea too.
The settlement is composed of few little streets and the general atmosphere is an aesthetic old fishermen's town, back in the 50’ and 60’.
I recommend visiting this piece of land to take a break from the touristic main island of Venice and enjoy the calm and quiet environment of sea town: walking around Pellestrina is a jump in the past era with the locals quietly going about their daily business, untroubled by large groups of tourists.
Pellestrina is a small island located in the Venetian Lagoon, off the coast of Venice, Italy. It is located to the south of the Lido, and it is connected to the mainland by a bridge.
Pellestrina is known for its quiet and peaceful atmosphere, and it is a popular destination for tourists who are seeking a more low-key vacation. The island is home to a number of small beaches, which are popular for swimming and sunbathing during the summer months.
There are several points of interest in Pellestrina, including the Church of San Pietro di Castello, which dates back to the 13th century, and the Castle of Pellestrina, which was built in the 15th century and is now a private residence. The island is also home to a number of small fishing villages, where it is possible to purchase fresh seafood.
HOW TO REACH PELLESTRINA
To reach Pellestrina from Venice, you can take a boat from the Tronchetto terminal. The journey takes about 45 minutes, and the boat service is operated by Alilaguna. Alternatively, you can take a bus from the Mestre train station to the town of Chioggia, and then take a ferry from there to Pellestrina.
