  • Venetian aristocracy: The museum's itinerary evokes different aspects of the life and activities of the Venetian aristocracy between the 17th and 18th centuries. The mannequins on display wear precious antique clothes and accessories mostly of Venetian provenance, which document the skills of artisans who contributed to the creation of the refined and luxurious elegance for which Venetians were famous.

  • Textiles and costumes: The museum is home to the Civic Museums' extensive collections of textiles and old clothes, which come mostly from the Correr, Guggenheim, Cini, and Grassi collections. The museum's specialized library contains an important collection of more than 13,000 figurines from the 1700s to the 1900s.

  • Art Gallery: The museum was donated by testamentary disposition to the City of Venice by Alvise Nicolò, the last descendant of the noble Venetian family, to be used "for Art Gallery, to complement the Correr Museum." The museum's charm and atmosphere evoke that of a lived-in home.

  • Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia: The museum is included in the network of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, which manages a wide range of museums and cultural institutions in Venice.

Video about Palazzo Mocenigo

In this episode, broadcast live on 25 May 2021, Chiara Squarcina, Director of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia, tells how the Museum of Palazzo Mocenigo underwent a major renovation in 2012.

The first piano nobile, which until then housed both the exhibition space and the offices and library of the Study Centre for the History of Textiles and Costume, became the subject of an overall refurbishment thanks also to the contribution of MAVIVE, which at the time wanted to create a Perfume Museum. In nine months, the exhibition itinerary was reinvented, a section dedicated to perfume was added, and the heritage of the Study Centre was enhanced with the presence of antique clothes. All this while maintaining the use of the Library, which was moved to the mezzanine floor near the Mocenigo Archives. It was a courageous operation, economically important but, above all, respectful of the heritage preserved in that location to which works of art from the Correr Museum's deposits were added, always with a view to enhancing the treasures that the Fondazione Musei Civici safeguards and protects with great care. All this will be recounted and explained in this particular meeting dedicated to the "before and after" of the Palazzo Mocenigo Museum.

In April 2021 the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia inaugurated a cycle of online meetings entitled "MUVE racconta". Each week an appointment dedicated to an in-depth examination of one of the Civic Museums through the stories of the managers and curators of each venue.

Tales of works, collections, activities and artists directly from the voice of those who live the museums in the first person.

A new series of webinars aimed in advance at MUVE Friend Card holders and now made available to all.

A great balance between a Museum, Cultural space and Art exhibition.

At Palazzo Mocenigo you can develop different subjects and find a Museum, a cultural space and an art exhibition.
